healthy lifestyle by new zealand’s georgie + goodness
Let’s be real, there are very few reasons – and even fewer people – that would get me out of bed at 6:15am. But I did for Georgie Hendl’s Rise & Shine yoga class. By my last week in Queenstown (March 2015), I’d gotten to know this healthy lifestyle maven who runs the office at Nadi Wellness Centre and teaches there, as well as leading private group classes in Arrowtown.
She is also a certified Holistic Nutritionist and has launched (September 2015) I Am Co. – which “caters to busy everyday folk who need a little extra health in their life.” The boutique boxes are genius!
I was surprised to find out that Georgie completed her training at Toronto’s Institute of Holistic Nutrition, where she says she found the perfect program and had an inspiring year in the city. That’s a long way to go and too bad we missed each other there, I said!
Georgie has a wonderfully shiny outlook on life, and stays grounded via fresh food principals and her daily hatha/ashtanga yoga practice.
Her yoga training has also taken her to some interesting places. I had never heard of the Sivananda organization before and it’s now on my bucket list. The Sivananda Yoga Centres total 30 worldwide and there are nine ashrams that offer a Yoga Vacation program all year round – in Canada, India, France, Austria, Bahamas, and the United States. Sign. Me. Up.
But back to Georgie, who completed her teacher training with Sivananda in Australia and recalls that a full 31 days on an Ayurvedic diet, along with zero alcohol, left her feeling amazing.
Taking that knowledge back to her own kitchen, here are a couple of g+g signature recipes:
Morning Smoothie | 1 banana, 1/2 ripe avocado, handful of spinach, 1 Tblsp chia, 1 Tblsp cacao, 1 juicy pear + a giant hunk of ginger. Blend with coconut water/ plain water and a splash of almond milk.
Morning Bowl | (especially good when you’re feeling cold): Cook 1/4 cup oats and 2 Tbsps chia in 1 cup of almond milk. Add 1Tbsp each of coconut oil and tahini, then top with handful of pump seeds and bee pollen. Warming, energizing and delish.
Try these and follow Georgie on Instagram for more fresh ideas!
And finally, I’m quite proud to have been featured as an inspiring one on her blog.
